چکیده

FOREWORD The main objective of this project is to quantify and resolve the differences in the longitudinal profile and roughness indices that are attributable to the different profiling equipment that have been used in the LTPP program. The Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) program was designed as a 20-year study of pavement performance. A major data collection effort at LTPP test sections is the collection of longitudinal profile data using inertial profilers. Three types of inertial profilers have been used since the inception of the LTPP program: (1) K.J. Law Engineers DNC 690 incandescent profilers, (2) K.J. Law Engineers T-6600 infrared-system profilers, and (3) ICC laser profilers. The following analyses were performed for this research project: (1) investigate data collection characteristics and compare profile data collected by the different inertial profilers, (2) compare International Roughness Index (IRI) values obtained by the different inertial profilers, (3) investigate factors that contribute to differences in IRI for data obtained from profilers and Dipstick ® , and (4) identify problems with equipment functionality and current data collection and processing procedures. The analysis indicated good agreement of IRI values among the different inertial profilers that have been used in the LTPP program. Development of An Artificial Neural Network Model for Asphalt Pavement Deterioration Using LTPP Data

Deterioration models are important and essential part of any Pavement Management System (PMS). These models are used to predict future pavement situation based on existence condition, parameters causing deterioration and implications of various maintenance and rehabilitation policies on pavement. The majority of these models are based on roughness which is one of the most important indices in p...

The Effect of Initial Pavement Smoothness on Long- Term Roughness Progression: Some Findings from C-ltpp and Us-ltpp Studies

This brief provides findings on the observed effect of initial pavement smoothness (also known as initial roughness, or as-constructed roughness) on the long-term pavement roughness progression of asphalt overlays. The relationship can be used as a measure for estimating the long-term effect of pavement smoothness and for consideration when developing smoothness specifications and/or payment ad...

Development of Methods and Specifications for the Use of Inertial Profilers and the International Roughness Index for Newly Constructed Pavement

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is currently utilizing a profilograph and the profile index for measuring smoothness assurance for newly constructed pavements. However, there are benefits to implementing a new International Roughness Index (IRI)–based smoothness specification utilizing road profiles measured using inertial profilers. Technological advancements have improved the...

Initial smoothness of concrete pavements under environmental loads

In the current paper, the effect of curling and warping, caused by environmental ambient conditions, on the initial smoothness of concrete pavements is discussed. Surface profile measurements were made during the hours of the early morning and late afternoon on an instrumented jointed plain concrete pavement ( JPCP) on highway US-30 near Marshalltown, Iowa during the first seven days after cons...
